Cameron Hayek is a doctor brought in to help at Vernon Mullins' clinic.

History

Not much is known about Cameron’s early life other than the fact that he was raised by what he calls “ultra liberal parents”. Despite this, his father became good friends with Vernon Mullins, whom he met in medical school. The latter knew Cameron from a very young age.

At some point before his move to Virgin River, he was engaged to a woman named Michelle, who was an alcoholic. He eventually broke off the engagement due to this.

Move to Virgin River

After ending his relationship, Cameron moved to Virgin River to work with Vernon at his practice. Upon his arrival, he receives a warm welcome and meets Mel Monroe, with whom he bonds over their shared city view of the world in contrast to Vernon’s small town ways.

While she was with Jack Sheridan, he tried to talk her into breaking up with the man. This upsets Mel, who leaves the practice, so Cameron would stay.

With Mel gone, he is asked to take over the paperwork and Mel's other duties, which he cannot do. This results in Muriel St. Claire volunteering as an office manager to fill out the paperwork. During the nearby wildfires, he and Mel team up to talk Kaia Bryant through helping a woman give birth. While helping an injured firefighter, he learns that Vernon is losing his sight, something that upsets him. However upon being asked to become a partner in the practice, he agrees.

Relationship with Muriel

Cameron first meets Muriel St. Claire when she volunteers as an office manager at the practice to help out with the paperwork that he was struggling with following Mel’s departure. Following the wildfires, Muriel's house is burned down and she stays with Connie. Issues emerge between the two and she vents about this to Cameron, which results in him suggesting she move into his spare bedroom. While she stayed with him, the two grow close and realise that they are attracted to each other. The couple end up kissing during the full moon. Initially hesitant to pursue a relationship due to them being colleagues, he later learns that Muriel spoke with Vernon who didn't care if they dated, allowing them to begin a relationship. The pair make it official at the Labor Day Carnival at the end of Season 5. Months later, at Christmas, the relationship between the two continues to thrive. Muriel plans an elaborate musical in which she, alongside Cameron, star as leads.
