Gene is Melissa Montgomery's right hand in season 5.
History[]
His truck broke down and Bert tried to help him. Bert hurt his hand and later tested positive for Fentanyl. Having earlier been rushed in the clinic, Doc explains to him that he may have been exposed to it somewhere. He is unaware that he touched that car by the side of the road at the start of the episode and cut his hand open. This explains the exposure.
Gene was the one who threw a rock in Brie's window.
At the lumber yard, Gene Sackheim shows up throwing threats around at Brady. Melissa explains that this guy is a friend of hers and she is using Brie as leverage to get Brady to keep in line and supervise another shipment from Jeb when he comes in. If not, then Gene could pay another visit to Brie.
While working with Mike, Brady speaks to Gene and tries to get him to open up that night but he’s forced to lift his shirt to show he’s not wearing a wire. Thankfully, he’s not wearing it when he does.
Brady was trying to expose Melissa's activities but he got caught and Gene holded him up at gunpoint and bundled Brady in the car racing off. Jack, having seen it all, rings Mike and asks for an explanation. Mike reveals everything about Melissa and her people being dangerous. Jack is currently following Melissa’s car, and Mike gives him instructions to keep doing this but keep a distance so he’s not spotted.
Brady is brought to an abandoned warehouse. Jack listens in as Gene and Melissa begin beating him down. Unfortunately, Brady was caught sneaking about the warehouse on CCTV footage and the jig is up. Melissa promises that he’s going to die but they’ll make it quick if he reveals all about the cops. He refuses, and keeps quiet.
Jack watches all of this and decides to serve a distraction to catch Gene off-guard While he investigates clattering noises around the warehouse, both Brady and Jack begin beating their assailants down. Or as best they can anyway while he’s cable-tied.
The cops arrive outside and arrest Melissa, while the whole situation is resolved. Unfortunately Gene comes out of nowhere and shoots Mike in the chest. As he bleeds out, paramedics rush to the scene.
