Noticing the contents of Brie’s purse, Jack goes to pick them up and finds her Xanax. He looks up at Mel, concerned. Brie comes out and asks to sleep. The two leave and Jack questions why she is taking medication. Mel presumes that it could be due to anxiety following Jack’s shooting. Mel mentions seeing an empty wine glass and believes that she might have mixed the two. Jack blames himself and Mel comforts him, suggesting that he to speak to her tomorrow.

Vernon is at home when Jo Ellen and Lizzie arrive panicking as they have been made in charge of hosting the Lumberjack Games. The whole town has been allocated roles to help out during the big day. Jo Ellen leaves and Lizzie and Vernon are put together as a team. Vernon jokes that Hope owes him one as he is now doing all the planning.

Jack and Mel arrive and begin preparing the activities. They flirt and talk about the medical assistance that Mel will have to provide at the event. They also discuss the activities that they will be taking part in as a couple and they kiss. Mel asks about Brie and Jack expresses his concern for her. He still feels guilty for not trying harder to get her to open up, suspecting that something was amiss. Mel responds that he should give her some time and that guilt will not help the situation. Jo Ellen calls for Jack and the two agree to talk later.

The event begins, with the town citizens arriving and taking part in various activities. Christopher watches Bert and his partner practice for a contest. Preacher suggests that the two go horse riding but Christopher elects to stay and watch Bert saw a tree trunk. Preacher makes him promise to stay there while he leaves to get something done.

Lizzie comes to help Doc, who mentions that there are not enough harnesses. She is puzzled as Jack had mentioned that everything was there and after counting them up herself, she confirms that they have everything they need. It is obvious that Doc cannot see clearly but dismisses it, stating that someone must have put it there while he wasn’t looking. He directs a confused Lizzie to help with axe throwing, and she is in disbelief over what her life has become.

Tara and Lilly walk together when the latter spots the other ladies, who are visibly upset. Tara admits that she told Connie about her sickness as the latter was asking questions and she didn’t want to lie. She apologises but Lilly disregards it, instead comforting her. Tara confesses that her illness is consuming her. Lilly tells her the reason for not wanting to tell anyone and be a burden has led her to realise that she is making Tara feel that way. Tara dismisses it, saying it isn’t her fault and Lilly decides that they should go over to the ladies. The two agree to conquer this together. The ladies comfort the two.

Jack receives a call from Charmaine, who informs him that she is rehoming Tucker because of Todd’s allergies which are now affecting his day to day life. When Jack advises that Todd go to the doctor, Charmaine responds that he doesn’t have time for weekly shots and the medication makes him tired. Jack jokes that it will fix his insomnia but Charmaine is annoyed by the comment. She asks Jack to take Tucker in since no one else can and he obliges. She thanks him and says that she will bring the dog later. Mike shows up and tells Jack that Brady doesn’t have an alibi for the night of the shooting. Jack is surprised as he thought that he had one for Juvy’s, Bea’s bar in Clear River. Mike reveals that he is reinterviewing witnesses and she changed her story. Brady has been left with two hours for which he is unaccounted for and is now the primary suspect. Jack is in shock, not thinking Brady could go this far but Mike reminds him of his drug involvement. Still, Jack is in disbelief and Mike tells him that he will keep looking into it.

Brie meets Mel by the first aid tent just as she is finishing up on a patient. The two laugh and joke about Jack. They decide to get some treats together. Brie apologises for the previous night but Mel remarks that she is just glad that she was there. Brie dismisses it as being something she ate but Mel admits to knowing about the Xanax after Jack found it. Brie is embarrassed and after being asked about her intake, she reveals that she takes more than she should and that she mixes them with alcohol to get them to work faster. She admits that it was a mistake and that it will never happen again. Mel tells her that the combination can be fatal but sympathises. Brie confesses that she started taking the Xanax before the shooting and opens up about a bad breakup. Mel comforts Brie and suggests that she speak with Jack, telling her of his concerns. Brie is unsure as she feels that the two have grown apart but Mel thinks it is a chance for them to rebuild their relationship. She changes to the topic and they go to get something to eat.

Ricky tries to smooth things over with Lizzie, who dismisses the problem but is clearly still upset and thinks that Ricky doesn’t want to live with her. He expresses his worries as their relationship is still new and moving in together is a big step. Lizzie points out that living together doesn’t have to be permanent. Ricky spots the tent with Marine information and asks Lizzie to talk later. She remarks that there is nothing else to speak about as she is called away by Jeb.

People continue to have fun at the event. Muriel rounds up Jack and Lizzie for the sawing contest Bert, one of the contestants, brings up the idea of the two getting married and starting a family. Meanwhile, Preacher returns to get Christopher but he is nowhere to be found.

Mel arrives and the competition begins. Jack notices Brie with Mike and asks Mel if she had a chance to speak to her. Mel informs him that Brie plans on talking to him but Jack is doubtful. She tells him about her breakup but Jack was unaware of her relationship. Mel is tired out and Jack compliments her to keep her going. He is surprised at the fact that Brie quit her job over a boyfriend, saying that she would never let anything get in the way of her career. Mel points out that people’s priorities change and she might have felt a certain way about him to not want to see him again. Jack is puzzled and Mel explains that people have different interpretations of love, sometimes even pulling back. Jack senses that this is about him but Mel denies it before admitting that she thinks Jack fears change in his life. As the two stop to discuss, Molly and Bert win the competition. Jack is unhappy that the two had a conversation about this here but Mel replies that it wasn’t her intention. Preacher appears looking for Christopher and everyone starts to join in and help.

Jo Ellen comes to collect Vernon for the trap shooting competition. He is certain that he will not be shooting this year. Jo Ellen begins to cry as she is still upset about what happened with Lilly and doesn’t know what to do now with her diagnosis. Vernon encourages her to continue living and enjoy the time left rather than focusing on the end. She thanks him and the two hug. Ricky finishes swimming and is asked by Preacher if he is aware of Christopher’s whereabouts, but he replies that he isn’t.

Vernon is waiting for the trap shooting competition when he is approached by Muriel. The two chat and she wishes him luck. He is shown to be concerned with whether or not he will shoot safely, given his eyesight. He runs into his doctor, Alex, and the two talk about the event. He is glad that Vernon is not allowing his health to hold him back but the latter is doubtful that he will hit the target. Alex asks him if he has given any more thought to the idea of treatment but they are interrupted by Nick, who informs Vernon that it is time to shoot. He is handed the shotgun and rubs his eyes, clearly worried.

As Jack searches for Christopher, he runs into Brie and informs her of the situation, asking that she keep an eye out. She agrees and as Jack walks away, she apologises for last night, telling him she has a lot going on. Jack remarks that he just wants to help her. Brie thanks him but says that it is not necessary. He asks her why she is pushing him away but denies doing so. He insists that she talk to him. Brie is hesitant but Jack continues to push. She reveals that she is upset that he has distanced himself from her and their family. He affirms that he loves her and she returns the sentiment, but expresses that she feels like they are strangers. Mel appears and asks for any update on finding Christopher. They briefly talk but the conversation is short. Brie observes this and asks him what is going on. Jack himself is unsure and explains what Mel told him earlier about relationship. Brie, realising it has to do with what she told Mel, tells him that she may know.

The trap shooting is happening and a woman shoots, receiving a round of applause. Vernon is up next and everyone watches him prepare. He rubs his eyes and tries to focus. He misses the first shot but succeeds in hitting the next few. Everyone applauds him and he is overjoyed.

Later, Ricky is approached by a Marine Sergeant, who asks him how his preparations are going. He is report good news and the man advises him on how to approach the exam. Lizzie watches them talk from a distance.

The search for Christopher continues. Preacher is about to call Mike and the sheriff when Mel spots him. Preacher sternly talks to him about his behaviour and whilst understanding of everything he has been through, addresses the way that he is acting. He tells him that if anything ever happened to Christopher, he would never forgive myself. When asked why, he says it is because he promised to keep him safe. He apologises and the two agree to cooperate with each other.

Mel and Jack prepare to do another activity together but the atmosphere between them is weird. It is clear that Jack is still upset about their previous conversation. Mel tries to crack a joke but Jack is serious. The competition starts and as Jack and Mel walk through it, the two discuss their relationship. Jack reminds her that she was the one who was holding back first whilst Mel argues that she took the step and feels like he is backing away. They talk about the baby situation when Mel falls. Jack jumps after her and the two hang in their harnesses together. They kiss before a cheering crowd.

Brie sits by herself when Brady shows up. She tells him about her dispute with Jack. He mentions seeing her with Mike and she jokingly asks if he is jealous. Brady suggests that they go to Grace Valley together and have lunch. Brie agrees and two walk off together.

Charmaine shows up to drop off Tucker. It is clear that she is upset at having to do so. Jack tells her that she doesn’t have to do this but she insists that she has to make sacrifices in a relationship. She reveals that Todd isn’t allergic but simply doesn’t like dogs. Charmaine was unable to convince him. Jack is obviously not happy with Todd’s behaviour but this only annoys her as she walks away. He reassures her that everything will be fine.

Mel appears and the two start talking. He tells her about his ex wife Mandy, who he married after high school and divorced within three months. Mel asks why he hadn’t mentioned it but he simply remarks that it is something he doesn’t think about much. Mel wonders what else there is that she doesn’t know about and tells him that she wants to be prepared. She lets him have some more time to think about the baby. They agree that they both want to do what makes them happy with Mel remarking that she wants a family. Jack reminds her that she would be a stepmother to the twins. Mel says that she will love them but she knows that it won’t change how she is feeling. He agrees to think about it and two embrace. Mel receives a phone call from Lilly and the two rush to help.
