She didn’t want to say anything since the two only recently started dating. Jack is shocked and simply says that it is hard to fight your feelings. Mel, annoyed, says that she should have kept them to herself but Jack argues that she did the right thing by telling him and the two make amends before going to sleep.

Preacher tells him that he needs to stand up for himself and advises him on how to do that. Connie arrives to take Christopher to camp and Preacher thanks her for her help with him.

Mel and Vernon talk about Hope, who he is still worried about, despite now being in contact with her. When Mel comments on his improved mood since getting engaged, he redirects the conversation to Mel’s love life but she quickly ends the talk, pleasing him. Instead, she asks for more information regarding his search for a new doctor. Vernon continues to be vague, although he invites Mel to do the interviews with him. She leaves him as she answers a phone call from Joey.

Mike arrives at the bar with some fish that he caught. Seeing that Jack has a lot on his mind, he asks him how he is doing. Jack tells him about the conversation with Mel and how overwhelmed he feels at the thought of having three kids. Mike doesn’t have any advice for him but tells him to hang tight.

Mel continues her chat with Joey, telling him about her conversation with Jack. She fears that she may have scared him off. Joey assures her that everything is probably fine. However, Mel explains further in depth and Joey agrees that it may have been a bit too much. The two end the call as Mel goes back to work.

Lizzie and Lydie talk by the bakery truck about living together. Lizzie thanks her for giving her a place to stay but it is clear that Lydie is only tolerating it. She offers Lydie something for free and the latter inquires about her and Connie. She suggests that they talk it out as they are family but Lizzie remarks that Lydie and Ricky feel more like her family. As she walks away, Lydie tosses her head from side to side pondering.

Brie returns to her room at the bar after an outing. She makes plans with Brady that today and goes to get ready when she receives a call from a Dr Fisher. The secretary is calling to inform her that her Xanax prescription has been refilled and will be ready for pickup in a few hours. Brie is relieved and thanks her.

Charmaine arrives at the bar to inform Jack that Todd has booked her a birthing suite. She is excited at the prospect of having a private chef and personal photographer. Jack doesn’t seem interested, which Charmaine notices. He remarks that as long as the twins are taken care of, he doesn’t care what she does. Charmaine scoffs and responds that at least Todd cares about her as well as the twins. Jack apologises, saying he didn’t mean it that way and whilst he thinks it’s a bit much, he just wants Charmaine to be happy. She mentions that Todd thinks Jack doesn’t like him but Jack denies the claim. Charmaine is glad as Todd wants to have lunch with Jack today. He tells Charmaine he has too much going on today but she tells him that Todd will feel offended otherwise but that it’s up to him. Jack reluctantly agrees and as Charmaine leaves, compliments her new car, which she states is a gift from Todd. Jack delivers supplies for Preacher. The two have a party coming in today that arrives annually and orders a large amount of things, giving them a hefty bill. He agrees to split it 50/50 with Preacher and discuss the partnership idea. Preacher agrees and is shown to be happy with the idea.

At Brady’s house, him and Brie lay on the couch together. She tries to explain herself the other night but Brady disregards it, saying she doesn’t owe him anything and he kisses her instead. He tells her about his meeting with a loan officer to secure a loan for the company but because he lacks the capital, he isn’t eligible. Brie wishes she could help but lacks the funds. She jokes about what she would use as Brady’s references and the two continue to kiss.

At the practice, Mel and Vernon interview a Dr Hansen, who seems the give all the answers that the pair were looking for. Mel agrees to give her a tour of the clinic whilst Doc has a moment to ponder it all.

At the bar, Ricky is working when Lydie shows up to give him some treats. She mentions her conversation with Lizzie and Ricky apologises for the whole situation. Lydie remarks that she wishes Lizzie to stay with them temporarily rather than permanently and asks Ricky to talk to her about the situation with Connie. When Ricky gives the idea for her to talk to Lizzie about it more instead, Lydie tells him that he needs to learn to handle conflict if he wants a relationship.

Jack and Todd meet at the country club and have a drink together. It is clear that Jack finds Todd’s behaviour irritating but attempts to be civil for the sake of Charmaine and the twins. He is impressed by Jack’s knowledge of scotch. They toast to him becoming a father. Todd offers to adopt the twins and take care of Charmaine and the kids so Jack doesn’t have to. Jack is insulted by the presumption that he is unable to take care of his family or that he would consider abandoning them.

Mel walks Dr Hansen out. Her and Doc both agree that she would be the perfect doctor for Virgin River. However, when Mel suggests bringing her in gradually, Vernon starts to become frustrated and confesses his plans to retire to a shocked Mel. Before she can question his motives, Bert enters.

Ricky shows up at the bakery truck to pick up the pies and talk to Lizzie. She begins talking first and tells him that she has some news but asks him to go first. Ricky is nervous initially but finally says that Lydie thinks that Lizzie and Connie should talk. Lizzie assumes that she doesn’t want her living there but he says that’s not the case and it is because the two are family. Lizzie says that she understands and proposes that they get a place together. Ricky is hesitant to take such a big step, which upsets Lizzie, who walks away.

Mel shows up at the bar and vents to Jack about her disappointment that Doc didn’t tell her he was hiring. She thought that they were on good terms and could be honest with each other but it seems that this isn’t the case. Jack reminds her that Doc is a very private person and this might not even have anything to do with her. He offers to speak with him but Mel declines, saying that she will deal with it. Before leaving, she mentions her plans to go out with Brie for drinks that evening.

Doc arrives at the farm to talk to Lilly about her health. She assumes that Mel had told him and confesses her cancer diagnosis. Doc is shocked and assures her that Mel did not say a word. He asks her about the treatment plans and Lilly tells him that she is doing palliative care, not wanting to suffer. She asks him to let her be the one to tell Hope and he promises to keep it confidential. She breaks down and Doc comforts her.

Brady and Brie lay in bed but she tells him that she has to leave soon for drinks with Mel. Brady agrees to drop her off and goes to get ready. Whilst he is out of the room, Brie takes a few of her pills. He returns and two continue to kiss, remarking that they still have some time.

The hunting party arrives at the bar and Preacher begins to serve them. Since they have arrived late, Preacher calls Connie to tell Christopher that he will have to stay late as well. He is upset that they won’t be able to practice his lines and he puts the phone down without a word.

As Doc leaves the farm, he agrees to respect her wishes and not inform Hope but advises her to tell the others and not blindside them. Tara arrives and Lilly plans to tell her with Doc by her side. Lilly becomes nervous and Tara starts to cry. She admits her diagnosis and Tara asks her if she can do anything to treat it. She is hopeful that Lilly can make a recovery but Doc and Lilly tell her that it is terminal and an aggressive type, meaning that there is nothing they can do. Tara bursts out in tears, and is in disbelief, thinking that she was tired from doing too much. She regrets not doing more for Lilly and the latter comforts her daughter. Tara promises to be there for her through everything.

Doc gets home and talks to Julia about the doctor he interviewed today. She asks him to make a decision quickly as she has another offer. He asks for more time but she replies that he needs to let her know by tomorrow.

Jack and Preacher continue to serve the party at the bar. They talk about what they will do with their shares of the money they bring in from this order, when Vernon arrives to get some dinner. Jack mentions hearing of his retirement plans and when asked from who he heard about, he reveals that Mel told him. Vernon is angered that she shared a private piece of information but Jack argues that she was hurt and was looking for advice. Nonetheless, Vernon leaves just as Mel arrives and seeing Vernon’s reaction, asks him why he is upset. He simply directs her to Jack. He confesses that he talked to him because she was upset and wanted to protect her. Mel forgives and thanks him but asks that he doesn’t say anything else to Doc. She goes to get Brie for their planned drinks.

In the kitchen, Preacher prepares the food and Jack helps him. However, he stops as he has a flashback of the night he was shot leaving the kitchen with a knife and seeing a hooded figure. He is brought back to reality but is still depicted as being worried.

Mel tries to knock on Brie’s door but she isn’t answering. As Mel leaves, Brie opens and door and apologises, having fallen asleep. She finishes getting ready and mentions Jack’s ex wife Mandy, unaware that Mel didn’t know about her. She apologises and remarks that Jack will be furious. Mel promises to not say anything and Brie thanks her. As they leave, Brie appears to be unwell, with Mel observing her paleness, but Brie brushes it off.
