At some point prior to the Mel's arrival to town, she lost her husband and was surprised when she became pregnant for the fifth time. As a result of the surprise of the pregnancy, she wasn't prepared when the baby came and left the baby in a laundry basket out on Doc's front porch. [1]

After Mel agreed to look after the infant, Lilly was revealed to be the baby’s mother after she was caught breastfeeding the baby while Mel took a break.[2][3]

When her daughter, Tara, comes to visit, Lilly was noticeably tired and appeared unwell, causing Tara to believe that she had too much on her plate.

However, Lilly confirmed to Mel that she had been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer.[4]

Lilly kept her diagnosis secret for a few more episodes before finally confiding in Tara and Doc Mullins but she persuaded him not to tell Hope, who was away from town.

While, taking a quick nap before dinner, Lily passed away in her sleep after suffering a stroke. When Tara goes on trying to wake her up, she finds that she had already passed away.[5]
