Virgin River Wiki

Melissa Montgomery is the main antagonist in season 4 an 5 and the person responsible for the whole drug operation happening in the series.

History[]

Little is known about her life before the series, other than she is Nick's sister and he mentions that she sends a big check once a month and he never questions where the money came from.

She was the one to post Brady's bail in season 4. She is the biggest investor in Jack's glamping gig. At the beginning it is unknown who is Nick's sister until they all go out to dinner to celebrate the glamping gig.

Melissa shows up at Emerald Lumber and decides that Brady is good to keep around given his “collateral.” The drug night business running through the lumber yard could spill into the day business, with Melissa convinced he’s going to play ball. If he doesn’t, then something bad could happen to Brie.

Melissa catches up with Brady. She wants to offer her condolences now that Calvin is dead. She wants Brady to pick up the slack and take control of the drug shipment, imploring him to “fall in line.”

At the end of season 4, Mel and Jack head out for dinner with Nick and Jo Ellen. They’re celebrating their engagement and the upcoming glamping gig. However, Nick unveils his sister to be no other than Melissa Montgomery. As the camera pans to outside, it’s shown that someone is snapping photos of her outside.

In season 5 premiere, Melissa confronts Brady and brings up his backstory, including his troubled childhood. She uses this as a hook to keep him working for her. He’s been delivering fentanyl to Melissa, and she’s pretty annoyed that he’s been ignoring her calls.

She’s expanding her business and wants Brady to be front and center of this. She needs people she can trust and believes Brady is the perfect fit. The drug shipments are being kept stuffed inside tyres. And in fact, Jeb decides to jump in and get involved. Brady is not happy but Melissa points out that this isn’t a suggestion. It’s going to happen.

Melissa however, also shows up to see Jack and gives him some advice about expanding his business. Although he is grateful for her offer, he declines, just as she hands over two baby gift baskets.

She is absent for a while when suddenly she messages Brady to meet later that night.

She has a meeting with Brady in the back of her car and she reveals to him that their operation will be running money through Jack’s business. Brady is going to be managing the daily operations to keep Jack in the dark and make everything look legit. Brady asks about he drugs, but she doesn’t reveal anything and tells him to follow orders. Brady has been serving as a whistle-blower and he happens to have recorded this entire conversation.

Brady plays the recording for Mike, and he connects the dots with that dinner last season between Melissa and Nick.

After the fire, Melissa shows up and despite straining to smile, agrees to let more squatters stay in the camp nearby. She also apologizes to Jack privately about the miscarriage and tells Jack that he’s family now.

Jack finds Brady sneaking in his trailers and asks whatis going on. Before Brady can say something, Melissa’s car shows up. Brady hurriedly explains that he and Mike are working together to take Melissa down and he needs to trust what’s happening here.

Jack is shocked, but Brady heads outside to talk to Melissa and try to hold her up. She and Gene hold him up at gunpoint and bundle Brady in the car racing off. Jack, having seen it all, rings Mike and asks for an explanation. Mike reveals everything about Melissa and her people being dangerous. Jack is currently following Melissa’s car, and Mike gives him instructions to keep doing this but keep a distance so he’s not spotted.

Brady is brought to an abandoned warehouse. Jack listens in as Gene and Melissa begin beating him down. Unfortunately, Brady was caught sneaking about the warehouse on CCTV footage and the jig is up. Melissa promises that he’s going to die but they’ll make it quick if he reveals all about the cops. He refuses, and keeps quiet.

Jack watches all of this and decides to serve a distraction to catch Gene off-guard While he investigates clattering noises around the warehouse, both Brady and Jack begin beating their assailants down. Or as best they can anyway while he’s cable-tied.

The cops arrive outside and arrest Melissa, while the whole situation is resolved. Unfortunately Gene comes out of nowhere and shoots Mike in the chest. As he bleeds out, paramedics rush to the scene.
