"Prelude to a Kiss" is the ninth episode of the sixth season of Virgin River, and the sixty-third episode overall.
Synopsis[]
Jack and Mel's wedding day gets off to an emotional start, and the truth comes out about Doc and Everett. Hope's temper could cause trouble for Doc.
Plot[]
Jack, Mel, and Vernon rush to Everett’s house and resuscitate him before the paramedics arrive and fly him to the nearest hospital. Mel agrees to go with him, and Jack, Vernon, and Hope drive to the hospital later.
They all spend the night at the hospital and are relieved when Everett’s doctor says he will be fine. Vernon explains his rift with Everett to Mel and assures her that Everett is no longer suicidal. He has something to live for now. After he regains consciousness, Mel explains they will postpone the wedding, but he refuses. He tells her his dream about Sarah. He claims that Sarah asked him not to die on their daughter’s wedding day.
He asks her to carry on with the wedding whether he will be there or not. Later, Everett asks Vernon for a favour and asks him to get the song in his notebook and pass it to Mel.
Meanwhile, Hope makes matters worse for Vernon when she confronts Dr Hayes. She ends up revealing that Denny is an undergraduate. Vernon gets angry at her and says she is always too much. This hurts her feelings, but he refuses to apologise. With Everett’s blessing, Hope calls Lizzie and informs everyone that the wedding is back on. Lizzie and the people work together to prepare everything for the big day.
Back in Virgin River, Brie runs into Lark and confronts her. She is under the impression that Lark and Brady broke up. At the clinic, Muriel tells Cameroon about her prognosis and Walt. Once Mel and Jack return, Brie and Kaia help her get ready. Unfortunately, Charmaine texts Mel and explains she won’t make it to the wedding. With Charmaine MIA, Joey steps in to fix Mel’s hair. She also gifts Mel with something blue and old belonging to their dad.
In the meantime, Jack takes Sugar on his last ride but switches his mind about giving him to Roland. He doesn’t want Roland to use Sugar as a show pony. Preacher and Mike tease him about always being too kind and never leaving anyone behind. Back at the barn, Lizzie jokes about getting married, and Denny is flustered.
Once Mel and her bridesmaid get to the barn, they are surprised by how big the reception will be. Hope hires a videographer to film the wedding, taking Mel by surprise. The guests start slowly arriving. Brie is shocked when Brady shows up with Lark. She confronts him, and they end up confessing their love for each other. Lark overhears their conversation and is hurt.
As the wedding is about to start, Mel gets anxious and asks Joey to fetch Jack. She tells Jack she feels happy, but she is worried about the ghosts in her past and trusting in forever again. She is not ready to walk down the aisle just yet. They run away from their wedding to catch a breath.
