Plot[]
Mel and Lilly discuss her cancer diagnosis. She states that she has stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Lilly asks Mel to be her emergency contact as she has not told Tara or anybody else yet. Lilly leaves and Mel tells her that she is here for anything that she may need.
The next morning, Jack and Mel wake up together. She is clearly still concerned about what Lilly told her last night but cannot vent to Jack as it is confidential. She two kiss when there is a knock at the door and June, the delivery woman, brings a package for Mel. She opens it to find a sonogram photo from Stacey, Mark’s sister, who is pregnant.
Brie gets ready at Brady’s house, having spent the night with him. She asks him for a ride back to the bar to pick up her car and he obliges. After Brady gets ready and goes outside, he finds Brie looking at his motorcycle. She questions him on it and he is surprised that she is so knowledgeable about bikes. He offers to take her out on it but she is unsure, since she is not looking for a relationship. He says that going on a ride doesn’t have to mean that they will be more than acquaintances but that it is up to her. She relents and the two go on a motorcycle ride together.
At the cabin, Jack questions how Mel is feeling but she is hiding away in the bathroom crying. After collecting herself, she comes out and confesses that this was her first time seeing a sonogram since her stillbirth. Jack tells her to stop putting so much pressure on herself and comforts her.
At the bar, the ladies talk about Hope and the hurricane. All of them are worried and wonder how she is doing. Muriel remarks that tornadoes cause more deaths than hurricanes, meaning the odds say that Hope is alive and well. Connie responds that Muriel’s logic is ridiculous before walking away to talk to Preacher. He shows her the letter that Paige sent. He is worried that Vince will catch up with her but Connie tells him that thinking negatively like that isn’t helpful.
Ricky goes to see Lizzie at the bakery truck and the two talk about their night together. She gives him a treat she made and they make plans to hang out later before he leaves. As Ricky drives off, a young man pulls up in an expensive car and upon interaction with Lizzie, it is revealed to be an old friend.
Mel shows up at the bar and asks to talk to Lilly. The two go outside and Lilly apologises for stressing Mel out over this. Mel is grateful that she told her but came to tell her that she thinks it is best that she inform the others and not isolate herself during this tough time. Lilly doesn’t want to feel like a burden and tells Mel that she will find someone else to be an emergency contact instead. She apologises for putting this on her. Mel tries to stop her but Lilly runs off.
At the clinic, Doc makes plans to fly to Atlanta and drive to South Carolina and look for Hope. Jack arrives and having overheard the conversation, pleads with Vernon to not put himself in danger. When asked what he would do if Mel was stranded, Jack suggests going with him. Vernon declines and Jack says that he is not reasonably. Vernon responds that reason is not a thing when it comes to saving someone you love.
Lizzie and her friend Carter talk catch up by the river. He remarks that he is shocked that she is in such a small town where there is a complete lack of privacy. He tells Lizzie that he came to reconcile with her, revealing himself to be an ex. Lizzie tells him that them as a couple doesn't exist anymore but agrees to meet him later for lunch.
At the bar, Ricky serves Charlie but feels awkward after spotting him the previous night. As he nervously talks to the man, Charlie asks if he is alright. Ricky confesses to being at the motel and seeing Charlie but the latter is indifferent and claims he is a man now. He agrees to keep Ricky and Lizzie’s secret, for which Ricky is grateful.
Brie and Brady hang out by the river and talk about their favourite movies. Brady opens up about his rough childhood. Brie, on the other hand, reveals that she doesn’t have any place to be and has decided to stay in Virgin River for the time being. They embrace right there by the river.
Mel is sitting outside, upset about the events that have happened so far in the day. Jack finds her and tries to cheer her up, saying that he will fight with people for her. She feels better until Jack informs her of Doc’s plans to go to South Carolina and look for Hope. Mel, thinking the idea is insane, leaves to go to the clinic and confront Doc otherwise.
Lizzie meets with Carter at the bar, annoying her as she wanted to meet with him elsewhere. They are approached by Ricky and she introduces the two of them to each other. Ricky is clearly jealous of the two. Carter is surprised but Lizzie sternly tells him that it is the truth. She tells him that Ricky is better than he ever was, and Carter tells her that she deserves that after he ruined their relationship. He asks for her forgiveness but she tells him that she has been over it for a long time.
Mel argues with Vernon that going to South Carolina is a bad idea but he is sure that he will manage. Mel persists but Vernon expresses the constant worry he feels. Mel, while understanding, tells him that Hope could be completely fine and he would be going there to risk his life. Vernon is open to taking the risk and Mel agrees. The two hug and Vernon promises to stay in touch before leaving. Lilly appears at the clinic and the two talk about her options. The cancer is terminal but Lilly does have the opportunity to prolong her life. She, however, is against it as she doesn’t want the people who love her to have to watch her suffer. Lilly receives a phone call and Mel watches Chloe.
Preacher is cooking when Connie and Christopher arrive. He tells him that he made a friend who has invited him to a sleepover and asks Preacher if he can go. Preacher says that he can’t since he doesn’t know the parents and can’t risk anything happening to Christopher. This leads to an upset reaction from the boy, who fears that his new friendship now won’t last.
Mel is outside with Chloe when Lilly appears. She asks her if she would like to try again for a baby. Mel explains that the situation is complicated with her and Jack’s relationship being new and him having twins. Lilly remarks that it is worth trying for something you really want. Mel claims that she doesn’t know if she will ever get pregnant again but Lilly responds that the possibility is always there.
Brady drops Brie off at the bar. As he drives off, Jack exits, asking Brie where she has been. She lightly brushes him off and tells him she doesn’t want a lecture but he expresses his worry for her. She admits that she has quit her job, surprising Jack, who thought that she loved being a lawyer. She tells him that things have changed. Jack remarks she’ll find another one but she says that it is not so easy.
Brie enters the bar and goes upstairs, shortly afterwards followed by Jack. Charmaine and Todd enter so Charmaine can use the bathroom. Jack and Todd start talking, with the latter revealing that he managed to convince Charmaine to give birth in a hospital, albeit in Eureka. Jack asks to speak to her about the hospital situation and she coolly explains it. He is confused as it goes against her birthing plan, but she is surprised, considering that is what he wanted her to do and also that she is the one who will be giving birth. Jack asks that he be informed on decisions made regarding the twins. Charmaine tells him that she knows that he was struggling to adjust to being a dad and since she has Todd, he can live his life. Jack repeats his intentions of being a present dad and Charmaine tells him that it’s not up to him. She also remarks that he should be grateful to Todd as she would otherwise be in Oregon with the twins. Jack is shocked, and Charmaine reveals that Mel knew. Before leaving, she asks Jack to not complicate things.
Muriel arrives at the house to see Vernon but he is busy and asks her to return later. She reveals that she and the ladies have organised his trip, booking transport and accommodation, and Lilly has provided Buck’s survival bag for Vernon to take. He thanks her and they hug.
Carter drops Lizzie off and the two say goodbye. He tells her that he plans to open a club in LA and asks for her help. He offers her a place to stay if she chooses to return. She requests some time to think and he agrees before leaving.
Meanwhile, Ricky goes to get information on joining the Marines. He begins to question whether enlisting is really for him and a sergeant guides him through the process.
Preacher has set up a tent for him and Christopher to have fun. He apologises for not letting him go to the sleepover but tells him that it is for his own safety. Christopher forgives him but says that he is upset because Owen is his only friend and the only person to understand him. Preacher reassures him that he is not weird and the two hug.
As Vernon prepares to leave, Lilly shows up. She has received a phone call from Hope, who was unable to reach Vernon. The two talk and he is relieved.
Preacher and Christopher make s’mores at his house and laugh.
Jack returns to Mel and the two have a drink by the fire pit outside. He asks her about Charmaine’s plans to move to Oregon and Mel admits that she knew. She confesses that she didn’t tell him because he was in the hospital and Charmaine asked her to not tell him. He understands but wishes that she had told him. Mel promises to do so in the future and the two reconcile and kiss. Jack suggests that they sleep outside but Mel refuses, not seeing the point. Once Jack explains further the experience they would have, she agrees to consider it. Jack receives a call from Mike, who reveals that Jimmy in custody and he tells Mel the news.
