Plot[]

Mel and Jack as well as Doc reach the farm and rush inside. It is revealed that Tara has had a surprise seizure due to her epilepsy resurfacing. The two examine her whilst Lilly and Jack go to make coffee in an effort to calm her. Tara seems to be fine and Doc reveals that her epilepsy is stable as a result of her medications. They both agree that they need to get support for the family.

Lilly blames herself for the seizure as stress is one of Tara’s triggers and she has been under a lot of it lately. Jack comforts her and assures her that she will be fine. He goes to soothe Chloe, who has started crying.

The next morning, Jack sleeps as Mel packs for her upcoming trip to LA. Jack apologises for not coming with her but explains that he wants their first trip to be a bit more special. Mel assures him that she understands and the two kiss.

At Preacher’s, Christopher is outside playing with Tucker while he and Connie talk. Preacher receives a text from the camp informing him that the play has been cancelled. Connie, not wanting to disappoint Christopher, says that she will call them and take care of it. Preacher tells her that she doesn’t need to do that, feeling guilty that she is spending so much of her free time helping him. Connie interprets this as Preacher not wanting her help and leaves, offended.

At the bar, Jack discusses plans to rebuild his house. It transpires that there is a water source under the lot and he needs to get permission to rebuild. It will take a long time to get things started and that’s if the permit is approved. He needs to decide whether to wait or sell. Jack worries that without a place for the twins, Charmaine will get full custody. Mike suggests Mel’s place but Jack replies that the twins will need their own bedroom. He then proposes selling the land and buying something else but Jack is doubtful that anyone will buy something so hard to build on. He is frustrated at the constant obstacles but Mike reassures him that he will get through it. Jack leaves, still disappointed.

Brie and Brady are at his house together. They make plans to spend the day together but Brady receives a call and claims that he has to go to work. Brie suggests meeting later but he instead proposes that she wait for him to bring breakfast. She agrees and they embrace before he leaves.

Ricky and Lizzie discuss the idea of living together. He fully explains his doubts and Lizzie admits that it is a big jump. They express their love for each other. As he leaves, she questions him about the Marine Sergeant at the Lumberjack Games but Ricky lies, saying that he was just trying to recruit him. Lizzie is suspicious, saying it looked like they knew each other but Ricky changes the subject by saying a man who just walked in looks like Granger Smith, a famous country music singer. Ricky leaves and Lizzie makes eye contact with the man. Jack notices and mentions it to Ricky, who tells him what he told Lizzie. Jack replies that it isn’t the famous singer but Ricky acknowledges that he knows, revealing it to be a ploy.

Preacher tells Jack that he has to go to Christopher’s camp. He asks him to stop by the bakery truck on his way back and pick up the pies. Preacher asks if Ricky can do it but Jack mentions that the camp is right next to the truck. Preacher admits that he and Connie had an argument. Jack offers to pick the pies up but Preacher says that he will do it, saying that sometimes you need to face conflict.

At the clinic, Mel suggests creating a care calendar to reduce Tara’s stress by having people sign up to help the family with different things. Doc agrees with the idea and also informs Mel that he decided not to hire Dr Hansen. Mel is surprised as she thought that he liked her but Doc remarks that she didn’t feel like the right fit. He has decided to take a break from looking whilst Mel apologises for telling Jack about his retirement plans. She explains that she needed to work out her feelings. He says that he isn’t mad but frustrated as everything used to be his business and now he is sharing it with everyone else. Mel remarks that it is simply about respect for a colleague but he responds saying that while he does respect her, it doesn’t mean that he wants her to know about every personal detail of his life. She reminds that this is about the clinic and he tells her that the clinic is his life.

Lizzie finishes up eating as Ricky approaches her. She tells him that she looked the singer up and it’s not him. She leaves and Ricky asks her if everything is okay between them. She confirms that it is but she must get to work. She gives him a kiss and leaves.

Brady waits at the sheriff’s office and repeatedly looks at his phone. Mike enters and Brady expresses clearly that he is annoyed at being here. Mike begins asking him questions about the night of the shooting but he gives him the same answers as last time. He tells him that he has two hours without an alibi, which is enough time to shoot Jack. Brady questions if Mike genuinely thinks that he shot Jack, but he remarks that he is unsure, asking Brady to tell him. Mike explains his convenient position as an informant and his absence during the raid. He suggests that shooting Jack was a way of getting Calvin’s forgiveness. Brady denies the accusation and he refuses to say more without a lawyer before leaving. Mike warns him to not leave town and to stay away from Jack.

Mel stops by quickly before heading to the farm and tells Jack about Doc being frustrated with her even more. Jack puts it down to him being upset but Mel says that it has been like this for a while. Jack tells her about the problems with rebuilding the house. Seeing that he is still upset, she pesters him, and he confesses that being with a fussy Chloe last night made him even more overwhelmed with the idea of being a father to twins. Mel states that if he really wants to make something work, he will. Jack is worried about doing more than he can handle. Mel is disappointed but glad that he told her, and she leaves.

Preacher arrives at the camp and reveals himself to be the new director for the play. It seems that the group has their work cut out as Christopher is the only one who knows his lines and there are also songs to learn.

Mel arrives at the farm and shows Lilly the care calendar she made. She tells her about support groups for people with terminal illness and Lilly agrees to mention it to Tara but says that she herself is not a support group person. Lilly tells Mel that she does not fear death and is looking forward to being reunited with Buck. Mel replies that it sounds beautiful and reassures her that the town will help her family. Lilly is certain that Tara won’t be able to afford the farm after her death as they are barely managing now. Mel comforts her and Lilly thanks her for everything she has done. She talks about her life on the farm.

At the bakery truck, Lizzie and Connie talk. The two make amends and Lizzie agrees to move back in with her. Connie agrees to tolerate the relationship between her and Ricky.

Doc finishes a consult on Charlie when Muriel appears, having made him some food. He thanks her and she remarks that she enjoys having someone to cook for. He confides in her his problems with Mel and his struggle to share personal details with other people. Muriel suggests that he give it a go and he takes her opinion into consideration.

Preacher picks up the pies and apologises to Connie for hurting her feelings. He explains that he was trying to be considerate and she respects his intentions. He reveals his plans to be director of the play and Connie praises him. Preacher is nervous and Connie suggests that he ask Muriel for help, given her former career as an actress. He invites Connie to come over later and she joyously agrees.

Brie prepares to go for a run but is met by Brady, who came to see her after she failed to return his calls. He tries to apologise for leaving her hanging but she is still upset that he didn’t call her back despite his phone supposedly dying. Brie is distant but he persuades her into letting him make things right. The two embrace and Jack witnesses this. He has a flashback from the night of seeing Brady as the hooded figure. He heads toward the two and warns Brady to stay away from his sister. As Brie intervenes, he accuses Brady of shooting him. Brie is shocked and Brady explains that whilst he was there. Jack comes towards him but Brie manages to hold him back. He orders Brady to get off his property. Brady attempts to explain himself to Brie but she repeats Jack’s wishes. Brady drives off as Brie runs back and Jack watches.

Doc goes over to Mel’s cabin with a bottle of wine and asks that they talk. He explains his diagnosis and the fact that he didn’t want to tell anyone about it. Mel now understands his reason for looking for a replacement and apologises for pushing him. He also apologises for taking his frustration out on her. Mel starts crying and the two make amends. She promises to not tell anyone about his condition. The two joke that they will have something else to disagree on and drink to seeing clearly.

Jack is visited by the family law attorney that he was looking into hiring. He explains his worries about a custody issue since he and Charmaine are not married. The lawyer informs him that if Charmaine doesn’t put his name on the birth certificate or signs a declaration confirming he is the father, he would have to petition to prove his paternity. She reveals that these could lead to years of fighting in court during which the twins would be living with Charmaine and Todd. Jack sighs upon hearing her expensive rate although she agrees to lower it since he is Brie’s brother. Jack says he will figure out and fight to be in his children’s lives. The lawyer praises his dedication before leaving and agrees to be in touch.

That evening, Jack arrives at Mel’s house but due to having a long, stressful day, he has forgotten to bring dinner. He apologises and she says that it is fine. Mel announces that she bought tickets for them to go to Maui for Christmas. Jack tells her about seeing the family law attorney about custody of the twins and is expecting a long and expensive court battle. Mel comforts him and promises to be there for him. He tells her that he feels like Mel is going to be neglected with him becoming a father and fighting for custody as well as rebuilding the house. He admire that he doesn’t think that he can juggle adding a third child to the mix. Mel is disheartened but suggests they wait for him to be ready. Jack is worried that he will never be ready and is holding Mel back from pursuing motherhood. She says that it is her choice but he insists that she shouldn’t have to choose and she should be with someone who can give her all that she wants. Jack wants to end it as he believes that he is unable to be that person for her. Mel is in shock and Jack persists that it isn’t what he wants whilst Mel believes that he isn’t listening to her. He replies that he isn’t doing that but that he can’t give her that. Mel orders him to get out of her house. He leaves, visibly upset, and cries in his car.
