Plot[]

At Jack’s house, firefighters are trying to extinguish the flames. Mel suggests that they leave, not wanting him to see this, but Jack says he needs a minute and goes and vomits. Mel talks with Doc, who has arrived at the scene. He mentions that Jack may be having triggers from Iraq and asks Mel to support him, to which she agrees. Jack and Mel leave to go to the cabin and Doc tells Bert his concerns about Jack.

At the cabin, Mel tells Jack that she is here for him if he wants to talk. He doesn’t see the point of it as it isn’t going to change anything. He walks off to take a shower and the two say that they love each other.

The next day, Mel asks Jack to stay with her but he is reluctant, not wanting to impose. She agrees to give him time to think about it.

At the clinic, Doc listens to the radio reporting on the hurricane. He calls Hope and leaves her a message, warning her to leave as soon as possible since the hurricane is heading their way. Mel arrives and the two talk about Hope. She offers to take over his appointments but he declines, wanting the distraction. He inquires about Jack and Mel reveals his plans to stay at the B&B. Mel’s patient arrives and she goes to examine her. Vernon receives a call from Julia, who informs him that she has arranged some appointments. She suggests he have Mel join the interview for a second opinion but he is adamant about keeping the search confidential.

Ricky and Lizzie spend time together at his house. However, their attempts at being alone are constantly interrupted by the presence of Lydie, who wants the couple to have everything they could possibly want or need. This annoys Lizzie, who would like to have some time alone with her boyfriend whilst Ricky sees this as a nice gesture from his grandmother.

At the bar, Jack talks to Brie, who asks him how things are going between him and Mel. He doesn’t wish to impose as he believes she is only offering out of compassion but Brie insists that Mel is doing it because she wants him there. He plans to stay at the B&B but Brie offers to go there instead and let him have his room above the bar back. He asks her about her plans to go home but she reveals she is taking some personal time off. Mel arrives to order lunch but Jack knows she is here to check up on him. She reassures him that everything will be fine and when Jack says that he will get a server to bring over the food, she leaves. Mike shows up, having come to check up on Jack and the two talk about the positives of Virgin River compared to the city.

Lilly leaves the store with Chloe and whilst walking, she feels some pain and sits down. Her older daughter, Tara appears, asking why she left since she wanted to go shopping. Lilly reveals how she hadn’t been feeling well but Tara puts it down to her doing too much work.

Vernon interviews prospective candidates for his replacement. Though many of them are highly qualified, he does not feel like they are the right fit for the clinic.

At the lumberyard, problems arise when it transpires that some of the machinery is broken and will be expensive to replace or repair. Brady suggests finding someone who will charge a flat rate but Jeb tells him that it will be hard to do so. Brady asks him to keep this between them as he fears that if the other workers find out, they will leave and the company will be in ruin.

Muriel arrives at the practice to see Vernon walking out one of his candidates. When inquired by Muriel, he dismisses it as being a tourist asking for directions. The two have coffee together and talk about Hope, who Vernon is worried, didn’t evacuate. Muriel reassures him that Hope will be fine as she is determined. She proposes that they play a game of backgammon to distract Vernon and he agrees. As Vernon retrieves his set, Muriel looks at some scattered papers regarding his search for a replacement. He returns and the two play a round together.

Mel is in Clear River buying clothes for Jack where she runs into Brie, who is doing the same. The two decide to get their nails done together. Brie reveals that she hadn’t seen Jack in over a year and whilst talking about their undergrad days, the two realise they went to the same college at the same time.

Ricky shows up at the bakery truck to make amends with Lizzie. He plans to surprise her with a getaway together where they can be alone. Lizzie is receiving of the offer and the two make up.

Mel and Brie continue to hang out together and start looking at clothes in a boutique. However, a strange occurrence happens when a stranger walks past Brie and she is shaken up. Mel is concerned but Brie dismisses it, saying she is fine.

Ricky and Lizzie go away together to a cabin. They book a room but Ricky becomes concerned that the man booking them in knows they are doing it to have sex. Lizzie reminds that they are going to do that but he is uncomfortable as he wanted it to be private.

Whilst walking in Clear River, Brie sees Brady at a bar and approaches him. He is hesitant to have a drink with her as he knows she is Jack’s sister. However, she is able to persuade him to stay. He tells Brie about some of the things that he has heard about her, namely that she is a lawyer and single, asking if it is true. Brie is secretive, saying that one is true and the other is complicated. Brady asks her to tell him which is which, but she refuses as she does not know him. Brady proposes that they fix that be getting to know each other.

At the bar, Preacher and Jack clean up. The two talk about his relationship with Mel. Jack is worried about the impact living together will have on them whilst Preacher sees it as a chance to see if they really connect. Preacher heads out to have dinner with Christopher whilst Charmaine comes by the bar. Her and Jack reminisce on the first time they met and how much has changed since then. She apologises, having heard about the fire, but tells him he doesn’t need to rush with rebuilding. Her and Todd plan to live in Clear River and she tells him that he can visit the twins whenever he wants as the couple has agreed to an open door policy.

During the rendezvous with Lizzie, Ricky panics as he has seen Charlie in the parking lot and is scared that their secret getaway will come to light. Lizzie distracts him, saying that this is an amazing experience for the two of them and they have sex.

Vernon tries to call Hope but he keeps getting forwarded to her voicemail. Mel shows up at the house, wanting to play cards to try and cheer him up. The two talk about Hope and he expresses his worry for her. He confesses that he hates not knowing how she is doing. Mel relates to this as Mark was in surgery for 3 hours before he passed away and the unknown was miserable for her. She encourages him to stay hopeful.

Preacher returns home to find Connie delousing Christopher and the entire house. The two joke about the way that louse attach to hair with their sticky feet. He opens a letter from Paige, who has sent a letter of consent for Christopher but unfortunately reveals that she has had to move three times and that Vince is close to finding her.

Jack comes over to Mel’s house. She tells him about her evening with Doc and his worry for Hope due to the hurricane. She gives him the clothes that she bought him and he thanks her for the gesture. The two kiss and Jack accepts Mel’s offer to stay with her.

Meanwhile, Brady and Brie leave the bar. She invites him to her place or suggests they go to his. Brady is hesitant as he doesn’t want her to think that he is taking advantage but Brie replies that she only does what she chooses to. He tells her that Jack is upset with him and this would make it even worse. She responds that nobody needs to know and it can be a secret between them. Brie kisses him and two have a passionate embrace.

Mel cleans up at home whilst Jack has gone to get dinner. She is surprised when she receives a visit from Lilly. The latter is emotional and reveals that she has cancer.
