Plot[]

In the middle of the night, Brie wakes up to find herself covered in blood. She calls Jack and asks him to come and help her. He asks her if she is okay but she drops the phone and starts to cry in pain.

Jack gets to the bar and rushes to Brie’s aid. She continues to cry and Jack asks her if she cut herself. She explains that it hurts and clenches her stomach. Jack lifts the covers and sees a pool of blood. He comforts Brie and calls Mel, who he agrees to meet at the clinic. Jack picks her up and carries her out.

At the clinic, Mel examines Brie and performs an ultrasound. Brie asks her what is wrong and although she needs to run a few more tests, she believes that Brie had a miscarriage. She becomes emotional and asks for Jack. With Brie’s permission, Mel tells him what happened. She gives the two a moment alone and he comforts her. Mel cleans up when Doc arrives, who asks about Brie. She tells him what happened and informs that physically she is fine but emotionally is not and will recommend for her to go to a therapist. Mel asks about Hope and Vernon replies that she is not speaking to him, upset that he kept Lilly’s cancer a secret. Mel assures him that she will eventually forgive him and he hopes that to be the case. Vernon tells her that she is on her way back to California for the funeral. He tells her the positive news about his anti VEGF treatment and the two joke about the feeling of having needles stuck in their eyes. She suggests that he go home and rest but he declines, saying he wants to have a look at some patients.

Ricky and Preacher discuss plans for Lilly’s wake. Connie appears and shows a picture of Vince, who she spotted in Clear River. Preacher reveals that Sally wants to meet with him in person. He is worried that something has happened to Paige.

Doc visits Tara, who is struggling with her mother’s death. He mentions that he heard from her sister that she won’t be speaking at the funeral and she reveals that it is too hard for her. He says to Tara that she is tough, not wanting her to have any regrets in the future. She agrees to try, which Doc is pleased to hear. He reminds her that Lilly would not want her suffering on her account.

At the bar, Mel and Jack help Brie get settled. She reassures them that she is fine but Jack is still doubtful. Jack leaves and Brie breaks down, not sure what is going on with her. Mel comforts her and tells her that what she is feeling is completely normal, revealing her own experience with pregnancy loss. Brie admits that she didn’t even know that she was pregnant and feels overwhelmed about the miscarriage and finding out everything all at once. Mel leaves to let Brie get some sleep and the latter thanks her. Once alone, she continues to sob.

Downstairs, Jack and Mel briefly talk about Brie and she asks him not to push her. He asks her how she is feeling after the loss of Lilly and she confesses that she feels devastated for the Anderson family. He tells her that Preacher is sending meals daily to the farm and Mel thanks them for their generosity. As she leaves, he brings up their relationship and the two agree to discuss it. She reveals her feelings about what he said, fearing that he’s just trying to do what she wants and asks for more time to think. Mel is also concerned about how things will change after the twins are born. He insists that he will always feel the same way about her and reiterates the guilt he feels for the mistakes he made. They agree to take things slow.

Ricky receives a call that he achieved high results in his exams. He is in the top tier of recruits and must sign a contract. The sergeant proposes that they discuss the location of the boot camp he will be going to.

Mel gets ready for the funeral whilst talking to someone on the phone. Jack arrives and the two talk as Mel finishes getting ready. They compliment each other’s appearance as they leave.

The members of the town all arrive at the church for the funeral. Vernon receives a call from Hope, who reveals that the rental car isn’t working and that she will be running late for the funeral. The conversation between the two is rushed. Preacher, Connie and Christopher arrives. Preacher reassures him that they can leave at any time if things get too intense for him. Mel struggles to enter the church for the funeral for the first time since Mark’s death. She has a flashback of her and Mark running together and him comforting her as she struggles to keep up. Jack consoles her as Mel opens up and he promises to take her anywhere else if things are too intense.

During the funeral, various people, including Vernon, Connie, Lydie, Bert and Jack make speeches sharing stories about Lilly and the impact she had on them. As Vernon wraps things up, Tara stops him and stands up to make her speech. She starts to talk about her mother’s love but starts crying inconsolably. Mel walks up to the front and helps her finish the speech.

Later, Brady pays Brie a visit, having heard that she was sick and wanting to keep her company with everyone being at the funeral. He again repeats his statement that he wasn’t the shooter and isn’t dealing drugs. He opens up about his tough childhood and the eagerness that followed in wanting to have more. He admits that it was a mistake, but Brie is doubtful that people can truly change, having seen the worst in people throughout her career. He apologises once again and lists the things that he loves about her and pleads with her to give him another chance. She asks him to give her a reason why and he professes his love for her.

At Lilly’s reception, the town has gathered together to celebrate Lilly. Jack finds Mel sitting alone on the porch and brings her some food. They talk about Lilly and how much she would have loved everything that the town did. Jack tries to reinitiate the conversation about their relationship but Mel is exhausted. He tells her that hearing about Lilly and Buck’s love story filled with hardships has inspired him to keep fighting for Mel. Ricky informs them that Doc wants him to do the toast. Jack comforts Mel but she insists that they go inside.

Jack makes an illuminating speech which receives praise from everyone and brings people to tears. Muriel and Vernon talk, with him thanking her for all her help. She asks him about Hope and he mentions that she should be here soon. Vernon leaves to go call Hope but receives a message that she is still on the road and asks him to sleep at the clinic. Charmaine arrives and Lizzie and Ricky talk. She tells him of her friend’s upcoming wedding in Mexico and they being invited to it. He tells her that he cannot go because he doesn’t know if he will still be here and reveals his ongoing plans to become a Marine. Lizzie is horrified, realising all the signs that she had observed previously were true. She starts crying before walking away.

The sewing circle finishes the quilt that they had been making. Connie comforts Lizzie, who is devastated after hearing Ricky’s revelation. Jack, alongside Nick, Bert and Charlie, talk about their fishing ventures. Jack leaves the group to talk to Charmaine, who had been having a conversation with Muriel. She confesses her troubles with Todd and his lack of consideration for her. Jack, despite not being a fan of their relationship, he wants Charmaine to be happy. She is unsure what to do and Jack advises her to talk to him about reaching a compromise.

Preacher finishes talking to some people and sees a gloomy Ricky. He confesses that Lizzie is angry at him for enlisting without telling her. Preacher is also shocked, hearing of his plans being in full motion for the first time. He questions whether Ricky is sure that he is making the right choice and he adamantly replies that this has always been his dream. He feels a lack of support but Preacher believes that he himself is having doubts. Ricky jokes that he isn’t as confident as Preacher and the latter reveals that he wasn’t confident at Ricky’s age either.

Mel and Tara talk in Chloe’s room. She thanks Mel for all the work she and everybody did for Lilly. However, she feels embarrassment for not having finished her speech. Mel expresses how proud she is of her and reveals that she didn’t speak at her husband’s funeral, regretting her lack of courage. Tara feels grateful to be loved by so many people. Mel simply states that love heals all wounds and when asked by Tara if she truly believes that, she confirms that she does.

Back at the bar, Jack has a drink whilst Mel checks up on Brie. She agrees to check on her again the next day and begins to leave. Jack stops her and the two confess their love for each other. They agree that despite being in bad places, they can still make things work and kiss passionately.

Doc is sleeping at the clinic when he receives a knock on the door from the sheriff. He brings unfortunate news that there has been an accident.
